Parents’ rights are guaranteed by the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and Vermont Special Education Regulations. Parents have rights in several areas including: consent and revocation of consent regarding special education evaluation and services; written notice from the school regarding special education services and notification to parents of their rights to disagree; and confidentiality of education records. Parents also have rights around their children’s special education evaluations and individualized educational programs (IEP).
